Ex-Warden W.E. HALE died at his residence in Oakland on Wednesday last. He had been a very ill man for several years and the end, while sudden, had been long anticipated. Deceased had served 8 years as Warden of San Quentin Prison, and his administration was marked by many reforms. Personally, he was a man of the highest integrity and the State loses a good citizen by his death.

Brief Local Notes

W.E. HALE, formerly warden at San Quentin, died suddenly of heart failure at his home in Oakland, July 11, 1900. The remains were buried at Oakland last Saturday. The services were conducted from the Episcopal Church under the auspices of Oakland Lodge F.&A.M. and Oakland Commandery K.T.
