Dead Man Found on Gravelly Beach
Last Monday evening, Steve Susavilla and Manuel Bereiro found the body of a man on Gravelly Beach, near Lime Point fog station. It was lying partially in the water. The men hauled it up on dry land, and immediately came to town and wired Coroner Eden, who came down the next morning and took the body to San Rafael. An inquest was held and the jury rendered a verdict of death from causes unknown.
Dr. Jones, the County Physician, testified that the man was suffering from disease at the time of death, and stated that the wounds on the head were probably caused by the body striking against a rock. He also testified that there was no water in the lungs, and that the man evidently met death on the lonely beach where he was found. From the evidence it would appear that the man had journeyed to the beach, where he had fallen from exhaustion and died. A note found in his pocket had written on it, “HENRY SRVIE, French Hospital,” which is the only clue to his identity.
