LUFT, Philip Henry, 77, of Novato, passed away September 28, 2001. Daphne Funerals Marin, Corte Madera, 415-924-4004.


Philip Henry Luft, A Resident of Novato
Born on January 28,1924 in South Pekin, Illinois. The son of William Luft and Louise (Schmidt) Luft. Preceded in death by Donald Luft, the sole sibling. Philip graduated a BSEE from the University of Illinois after enlisting in the Naval V12 program during WWII. He served on the USS Crescent City and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. He joined the Union Switch Signal Company as a Development Engineer and assisted in development of the first transistored equipment used in industry. He was issued a number of patents for his work and was Project Engineer on the first U.S. remote control train on the New York/New Haven Railroads. He later retired as owner of his own employment service agency. Mr. Luft passed away on September 28, 2001 at age 77, and is survived by his beloved wife Irene of 30 years, with a good deal of traveling to far away places; his four children, Greg, Ray, Steve and Diane; and his two stepsons Steve and Gregg and their families. There will be a private Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Marin or a charity of your choice.
