Death of Emil Lange
Death claimed EMIL LANGE last Thursday. He was for 8 years a trusted gardener in the employ of Madam Gruenwald. The funeral was conducted under the auspices of the Marin Central Labor Union on Sunday last from the undertaking parlors of E. Eden, conducted by Rev. William Marshall. The burial was at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery. The presence of the family at the funeral was evidence of the high esteem in which he was held by his employer. A large number of friends gathered to pay their last respects to an industrious citizen. He was a German by birth and was highly educated in botany.
Poison in Lange’s Stomach
The stomach of EMIL LANGE, who died in a fit in a saloon at 641 Mission Street, San Francisco, last week, was reported by the city chemist after a thorough analysis, to contain enough strychnine to have caused death. While in San Rafael, Lange was under treatment for the liquor habit.
Autopsy Surgeon Leland concluded that as strychnine is one of the principal drugs used in the treatment, its presence in the stomach is not necessarily a suspicious circumstance. He thinks the drug, together with some sudden shock, brought on the fit which caused Lange’s death.
