Death of J.E. Shoobert
Passes Peacefully Away Surrounded by His Devoted Family

It was a shock indeed to our community Sunday morning last when the announcement was made that J.E. SHOOBERT, that old and respected citizen, had passed away about 9 o’clock the previous evening. He had eaten a hearty dinner and shortly afterwards there was some little manifestation of discomfort, and Dr. Mays, who was near at hand, was summoned, and arrived there just as he breathed his last. He has been below a full standard of health for sometime past, but such a sudden taking off was not expected. Funeral services were held in Christ’s Church on Tuesday last, when there was an unusually large attendance. Rev. C.L. Miel, now of Sacramento, an old friend of the family, officiated. Deceased went while quite young from England to Australia. He left there for California some 20 years since. Business experiences in Australia aided him here in building up a successful enterprise as a dealer in sheep and wool. The family lived for a time in San Francisco, but after the death of an only son, came to Sausalito, and here built up an elegant home, where they have dispensed liberal hospitality. To know Shoobert well, one found out he was noble and true, one of the best of men in all the relations of life. Scores who thus knew him share with the widow and her 4 noble daughters, a feeling of sadness and sorrow at such irreparable loss to them and to all who knew him.
