Death of T.G. Shearman
Famous Lawyer and Philanthropist Succumbs to an Operation
THOMAS G. SHEARMAN died on September 29, 1900, at his home on Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY. He became seriously ill two weeks before in Paris and returned home immediately. On arriving it was decided that an operation for removal of a diseased kidney was necessary. The eminent surgeon, Dr. Robert F. Weir, performed this operation, but Mr. Shearman did not survive the shock.
Mr. Shearman was born in England in 1834, and came to this county when 9 years old. He studied law under Lyman Abbott and was a partner of David Dudley Field. He wrote many legal works and was noted for his logical mind and forcible method of dealing with these subjects. His writings have been often quoted in these columns. Mr. Shearman was a warm admirer of the natural beauties of Sausalito and interested in its development. He purchased some years ago a fine villa site on the hill, adjoining the home of a relative, and it was hoped that he would build and establish his residence here when he retired from active work.
