Edwin Tompkins Dies At Home Of Son
Funeral Wednesday
Edwin Tompkins, former Corte Madera grocery store owner, died yesterday evening at the home of his son, Fred Tompkins, in Cotati, following a sudden heart attack. He was 86.
He was the proprietor of the E. Tompkins grocery in Corte Madera between 1920 and 1925.
A native of New York, he came to California as a boy around 1880. He was a resident of San Francisco for 10 years and then moved to Cotati around 1899.
His wife, the late Mrs. Ettie Tompkins who preceded him in death two years ago, was a resident of Marin country for the past 30 years.
Surviving him are two brothers, Elmer Tompkins, Boyes Hot Springs, and Fred Tompkins, Cotati; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Johnson, 1659 San Anselmo avenue, and Mrs. May Meagor, 69 San Anselmo, both of San Anselmo; Mrs. Ida Dibben, 107 H street, San Rafael; and Mrs. Esther Leef, Sebastopol. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at Sorenson’s mortuary, Petaluma. Burial is scheduled to be held in Petaluma.
