SWEENEY Jr., Daniel Joseph, passed away September 30, 2001. Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery-Mortuary, San Rafael, 415-459-2500.
Daniel Joseph Sweeney Jr., Founder of Tarantino's Restaurant, on Fisherman's Wharf
Son of Daniel Joseph Sweeney and Emily (Emma) Wissel Sweeney. Born on Christmas Day in San Francisco, California in 1909. He grew up in Eureka Valley, graduated from Mission High School, Class of 1927. Served in the United States Air Force, flying 39 missions over Japan during World War II. Daniel peacefully passed away at home in Greenbrae on September 30, 2001. He was the founder and operator of Tarantino's Restaurant in San Francisco in 1947, where he met his wife Zora Veljkov, to whom he has been married for 51 years. He was a former member of the Olympic Club where he played championship handball for years. He loved his family, his friends, golf and other sports, traveling and reading. Daniel is survived by his wife, Zora, sons Kevin, Tod and Dana, daughter-in-law Cheryl, grandsons Tyler and Austin, sister Muriel Herlihy, nieces Sister Claire Herlihy, Jean (John) Worton, Jan (Mario) Castillo, numerous cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Daniel's life on Friday October 5th, 2001 at 4 p.m. in the Livermore Room at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross on Sir Frances Drake Blvd. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Drive, Corte Madera, CA 94925 or St. John's Serbian Orthodox Church 900 Baker, San Francisco, CA 94115.
