EDITH THURLING

The funeral was held at St. Thomas Apostle Church in San Francisco for Edith Thurling of Novato.

Mrs. Thurling died Monday, Sept. 28, 1987, at the Rafael Convalescent Hospital in Terra Linda. She was 95.

She was born in San Francisco, the eldest of 10 children, and lived there most of her life.

Her family home on Fell Street was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco. She and her family camped in Golden Gate Park until they found a new home.

She was a homemaker for many years. But, after her husband died she worked as a salesperson at the Emporium in downtown San Francisco. She retired at age 75.

She was active in the San Francisco Senior Center and the St. Joseph Senior Center, also in San Francisco.

Mrs. Thurling also belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Sodality of St. Thomas Apostle Church in San Francisco.

Her survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Hayes of Pacheco Valley, Dorothy Hillmoe of Westlake and Barbara Scannell of Lucas Valley; a son, Albert Thurling of Piedmont; two sisters, Martha Johnston and Ethel Butt, both of San Francisco; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
