Gloria Janas Johnson

Passed away at 12:05 am on Sunday, September 23rd, 2001 in her Marin City home after several months of battling Pancreatic Cancer. Mrs. Johnson was born November 12, 1936 in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Edward and Viola Janas, both who preceded her in death. The family moved to Marin City during World War II and Gloria is second of five generations raised in this community; Gloria attended Tamalpais High School.

Gloria was renowned for her classy style, quick wit, her delicious food and generosity to those she loved. Her beautiful corner garden at 76 Cole gave everyone who passed by a chance to admire the beautiful plants and flowers of which she so lovingly took care. She could be seen on the bike trails of Mill Valley and Sausalito power walking and enjoying nature.

She leaves behind to grieve her three children, Belinda Cook of Marin City; Oshalla Diana Marcus of Venice, California; and Edward Marcus of Vallejo, California. Her daughter, Rachelle Jones preceded her in death five years ago, as did her youngest sister, Sandra Janas. Her remaining sisters, Barbara Smith of San Francisco, Joyce Dilosa of San Francisco, Melissa Thomas of Marin City, and a host of in-laws, relatives, friends and admirers also survive her.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday September 28 at Noon at the Russell & Gooch Funeral Home, 270 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley, California. Interment Services will be held at 3 p.m. at the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in South San Francisco.
