Death Calls Harry Roberts, Veteran N.W.P. Brakeman
John Henry Roberts, brakeman for many years in the employ of the N.W.P., died Sunday at the Southern Pacific Hospital where he was taken some time ago after an extended illness.
Mr. Roberts went to Arizona three weeks ago in an attempt to find relief for his condition but the change of climatic (sic) had no beneficial effect and upon the advice of physicians he returned home.
Mr. Roberts had a most active career. He was intensely interested in all civic and fraternal activities and took part in many of them when his time permitted. Besides being a member of Mt. Tamalpais Lodge, No. 687, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen of which he was secretary for many years, he was Marin representative on the California legislation board of Railroad Trainmen; and was also a member of Mt. Jackson Lodge, No. 295, F. and A. M. of Guerneville, and San Rafael Pyramid No. 31, A.E.O. Sciots.
Deceased was a native of Wales. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Roberts, and is the father of Vivian and Florence Roberts and Mrs. Linn Roberts; and son of the late Margaret A. Roberts; brother of Charles and Albert Roberts, Mrs. Burr Phinney and Mrs. Victor Frizzi.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Keaton and Dusel chapel, under auspices of Mt. Tamalpais Lodge, B. of R.T., of which Mr. Roberts had been an honored member for many years. Final services were held at the Presbyterian Church, San Rafael, with inurnment at the Chapel of the Chimes, Berkeley.
Pallbearers, all from the trainmen’s organization were: Russell Sirck, John Vincent, Roscoe Squires, Elmer Pimm, Dan Kennedy and Charles Hewitt.
