LOUISE STEPHENS

Louise J. Stephens, longtime Belvedere resident and civic leader, died yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Charlotte, Mich. After marrying the late George C. Stephens, she moved to California. They lived briefly in Coronado and San Francisco, moving to Belvedere in 1918.

The family home was at 9 Mallard Road.

Stephens, who died in 1959, was an investment banker.

Mrs. Stephens had a long career in charitable and civic activities. Among the organizations in which she served were the Marin Music Chest, Marin Art and Garden Center, Sunny Hills, St. Stephen’s Guild and the Marin Charitable Foundation.

She is survived by a son, Edward J. Stephens of Belvedere, and four grandchildren.

Private service was held today followed by burial in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.

The family prefers contributions to St. Stephen’s Parish, Belvedere, or a favorite charity.
