James Dean, San Rafael, Dies At 85
Requiem Mass for James J. Dean, 85, of 1844 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael.
Dean died today at a local hospital after a brief illness.
A native of England, he came to this country with his parents as a child, settling in Lawrence, Mass. He later was graduated from Villanova University in Philadelphia.
He came to San Rafael in 1920, teaching for five years at the old Mount Tamalpais Military Academy. From 1925 to 1930, he taught mathematics and Latin at San Rafael High School, and also was a coach of football and baseball.
From 1930 until his retirement in the mid-1950s, he taught at the Tamalpais School for Boys.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Alice Langhehn, and two grandchildren, all of San Rafael.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was the grandfather of Mary Christine Langbehn (sic) and James Langbehn of San Rafael.
