HARRY MURPHY
Fairfax designer
Harry B. “Sage” Murphy died at home in Fairfax from complications with metastatic melanoma. He was 59.
Mr. Murphy was born in Jeffersonville, Ind., and reared in Tampa, Fla. He was born into a circus family, giving him an artist’s temperament and flair which stayed with him throughout his career.
He became a fine artist, graphic designer, teacher and an innovator in the graphic design field.
In 1966, he founded Harry Murphy + Friends, a graphic design firm in San Francisco. It won over 900 national and international design awards.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Freeman of Fairfax; a son, Kevin Murphy of Tampa, Fla.; a step-daughter, Amy Clisham of San Francisco; and three grandsons.
Memorial services will be July 30 at 3 p.m. at 58 Hickory, Fairfax.
