Drowned in Bay

Early Saturday morning Mr. Becker discovered a body floating in the bay in the rear of his store at Sausalito. Coroner Eden was notified and the body was brought to the morgue, and on Tuesday an inquest was held. It proved to be the body of Thomas Ross or Thorald Ross, who had been employed as cook on the government boat at Sausalito shore. He and two shipmates came ashore Friday evening and about 9 o'clock they left, two of them returning to the ship. Ross got separated from the others and the evidence indicates that he fell off Nelson's wharf and drowned. Dr. Wickman made careful examination of the body and found no evidence of any foul play. The head and face had evidently been bruised some by striking the docks along the shore. He was a native of Denmark and aged about 35 years old, and had 13 days pay due him on the ship. The jury rendered a verdict of death from unknown causes.
