Pioneer Woman Killed By a Car

Mrs. Mary Weir, who resided with her daughter, Mrs. Emma E. Tighe at 204 B Valencia Street, was killed by an east-bound Sixteenth Street Car at Sixteenth and Dolores Streets in San Francisco at 6 o'clock Saturday evening. She was returning to her home from the Mission Dolores Church.

Mrs. Weir was struck apparently by a step or corner of the car and knocked in front of the fender. Death resulted from a fracture of the skull, immediately over the right eye. She was taken to the Southern Pacific Hospital, but was dead when the ambulance arrived. Her prayer book was found a short distance from where the car struck her.

The remains were identified by means of a bank book of the Hibernia Savings Bank, in which Mrs. Weir had about $500 on deposit. Her son-in-law, Thomas Tighe, later called at the morgue and completed the identification. The motorman, Fulalove, was arrested and booked on a charge of manslaughter.

Mrs. Weir was one of the best known pioneer women of Petaluma. She lived here for 40 years and was the mother of Mrs. Tom Tighe formerly of this city, and of James Weir of Napa. She was a native of Ireland, aged 88 years and 6 months. At the time of her death, she owned property here.
