Gretchen Singer
An accountant in her husband's accountancy partnership in San Francisco for many years, died in a Petaluma convalescent hospital on September 8, 2001. She was 91.
Known as "Buddy" to her family and friends, Mrs. Singer was born in Millburn, New Jersey, the oldest of five children. The family moved to San Anselmo when she was seventeen. She commuted by train and ferry to San Francisco where she worked as a secretary. She eventually met and married Jack V. Singer of San Rafael. The couple went to Montana to get married in a double ceremony with Jack's mother as the other bride. They were married for sixty-two years before Jack's death in 1993.
Mrs. Singer was a generous contributor to various charities both with time and donations. She was an avid craftsperson and spent many hours on quilt making and other projects. She continued to do accountancy work until the last few years of her life.
Mrs. Singer is survived by one son, Jack V. Singer of Las Vegas and Maui; two sisters, Pauline Adams of Fairfax and Dorothy Conser of Mountain View; two brothers, Fred Neese of San Anselmo and Paul Neese of Petaluma; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
There will be a private memorial service. The family would prefer donations to go to the American Heart Association. Keaton's Mortuary; (415) 453-0571.
