WILLIAM BRENNAN
Television producer
William John Francis Brennan of Greenbrae, a theater and television producer who was known for his San Francisco production, “Mary Martin at Davies Hall,” died of cancer Sunday, April 5, 1992, at Marin General Hospital. He was 71.
Mr. Brennan began his career at CBS in Hollywood, where he eventually served as network sales manager and program manager of KNXT. A graduate of the University of Southern California, he was still in college when he started working in television.
He wrote for such network shows as “Death Valley Days,” “The Mighty O” and “Red Skelton.”
He developed and produced “Dodgerthon,” a telethon to raise support for a local referendum to allow the Dodgers to acquire Property for Dodger Stadium.
In 1977, Mr. Brennan moved to San Francisco. After supervising the Civic Light Opera’s $2.5 million renovation of the Orpheum Theatre, he served as the theater manager from 1977 to 1981.
He worked for two years as the talent coordinator on the PBS series, “Over Easy.” Mr. Brennan served on the boards of the Trauma Foundation at San Francisco General Hospital and Friends of the San Francisco Police Department.
He was a member of the Bohemian Club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Faber Brennan of Greenbrae; his three sons, William Brennan Jr. of Sacramento, Steve Brennan of Redwood City, and Terry Brennan of Irvine; two daughters, Kathy Dells of Vista and Betsy Brennan of San Francisco, and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be private.
