WILLIAM D. KELLY JR.

William D. Kelly Jr., a vice president for United Artists Theater Circuit, died yesterday at his home.

Kelly collapsed after getting out of bed at his home at 54 San Marino Drive, San Rafael, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Marin General Hospital, according to deputy coroner Donald O. Cornish. He was 56.

He was born in Long Island, New York, and grew up there. After graduating from Fordham University he took a job as branch manager for Universal Pictures in Atlanta, Ga. Kelly moved to the Bay Area 615 (sic) years ago when he still worked for Universal. Then, eight years ago, he took the position of vice president in charge of film buying for United Artists. He has lived in San Rafael for the past 11 years.

A member of the Variety Club, which supports the Blind Babies Foundation and Heart Fund, he is survived by his wife, Ann; three daughters, Barbara Lencioni of Santa Monica, Virginia Crotty and Suzanne Poyas both of Novato; a son, William D. Kelly III of San Rafael and five grandchildren.

Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Sylvester’s Church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at the Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.

Memorial contributions to the Variety Club Heart Fund would be preferred by the family.
