ERWIN J. BLANZ

A funeral for Erwin J. Blanz of San Rafael, a Marin resident for 14 years, will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco.

Blanz died unexpectedly Saturday at a local hospital. He was 72.

Blanz was a native of Germany and moved to this country in 1923. He owned a bakery in San Francisco for 14 years and sold it in 1948. He lived in San Francisco and often vacationed in Marin until 1963 when he moved to San Rafael.

He was a member of the Freund Liederkranz, a singing society, and the Schaben Verein, a social group. He also was president at one time of several other lodges.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Blanz; two sons, Erwin Blanz Jr. of Los Altos and Richard Blanz of Occidental; and a brother, Willy Blanz of San Rafael.

A wake service will be held tonight at 8 at the Suhr and Wieboldt mortuary in San Francisco. Burial will be at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
