The Dandy Fifth Mourns Death of A.D. Whitlock
There is sorrow in the Dandy Fifth and every member of Company D who ever attended camp with the regiment mourns the death of A.D. Whitlock, for many years drum major of the regiment.
Arthur D. Whitlock, for 18 years drum major of the Fifth Regiment band, and for more than 20 years a member of the National Guard answered his final roll call Saturday night, when death came to relieve him of more than a year's suffering. The remains will be embalmed and kept until next Sunday afternoon, when the funeral will be held from the armory of the National Guard in Oakland with military honors. The Fifth Regiment band and the National Guard will be in attendance.
The deceased was 49 years of age. He was born at St. Andrews, New Brunswick.
He had legions of friends and a big crowd of members and ex-members of the Fifth will go to Oakland on Sunday to attend the funeral.
