JOAN H. CAREY
Joan H. Carey of San Rafael, secretary for the San Rafael Redevelopment Agency and a Marin resident for many years, died today at a local hospital following a brief illness. She was 53.
Mrs. Carey was a native of Nebraska and moved to California in 1943. She lived in San Francisco and San Bruno before moving to San Rafael 19 years ago.
She worked for the City of San Rafael for 12 years and worked part of that time as secretary for the city’s redevelopment agency.
She was a member of Sweet Adelines.
She is survived by her husband, John Carey; a son, Stephen Henriksen of Mill Valley; a daughter, Barbara Henriksen of Ben Lomond; and her mother, Edith Neild of Richmond.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael. Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery. The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
