Remo Nick Bettini Dies, Rites Set
Remo Nick Bettini, 56, of 164 Ridge Road, San Anselmo, a tree surgeon, was discovered dead in his garage yesterday, an apparent suicide, according to Deputy Coroner Richard W. Madigan.
Bettini died of a gunshot wound of the head, Madigan reported. He reportedly has been despondent because of poor health.
He was discovered at 1:45 p.m. by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Emily Bergue, Madigan reported.
Bettini, brother of San Rafael mayor C. Paul Bettini, was a native of San Rafael, and a life-time Marin resident.
One week ago he was hired by the city of San Rafael as a groundsman, but previously had been a self-employed tree surgeon for 30 years.
Bettini is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Edward C. Bettini of San Anselmo; a daughter, Gloria Aquilino of Terra Linda; his mother, Mrs. Caesar Bettini of San Rafael.
Also surviving him are two brothers, Richard and Paul Bettini of San Rafael and two sisters, Mrs. Willard Hall of Marinwood and Mrs. Al Fraser of San Rafael plus one grandchild.
Bettini was a member of San Rafael Chapter, United Ancient Order of Druids and the Club Italia.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rita’s Church in Fairfax. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
