Floater Found
Supposed to be John Daily, a Coal Heaver

On Friday last the body of a man, supposed to be that of John Daily, a coal heaver on the steamer Sonoma, was picked up in the bay between Angel Island and Sausalito, and brought to Sausalito, where Coroner Eden took charge of it and brought it to the morgue, where the inquest was held on Monday. Dr. Jones held an autopsy and testified that in his opinion, death was caused by drowning, as no evidence of foul play was discovered on the body. The jury rendered a verdict to the effect that his name was John Daily, nativity unknown, aged about 25 years, and that he came to his death on or about August 28th.

The city papers, in publishing accounts of the death, concluded that Daily and some companions from the steamer were drinking along the waterfront in the city, and that Daily had fallen into the bay while drunk.
