Novato Man Whose Wife Died Recently Takes Own Life
Body of a 38-year-old Novato tractor operator was discovered last night slumped over in the breakfast nook of his Armstrong avenue home, a .22 calibre rifle bullet in his abdomen.
Deputy Coroner Frank Keaton disclosed that the man, Christoph L. Leeman, a resident of Novato for more than a year, had apparently taken his own life during the night of August 1. Two notes found near the body revealed that he was despondent over the sudden death of his 29-year-old wife, Gladys, two months ago.
The body was discovered by a neighbor, Mrs. Listman, last night when she dropped in to inquire about a domestic matter. Seeman rented his home from her.
Lights in the home had been burning since he snuffed out his life and the radio was playing. Deputy Coroner Keaton set the time of death at approximately 11 p.m.
In two notes Seeman left he requested to be buried next to his wife in Mt. Tamalpais cemetery. He cited despondency over her death as the reason for his act and left all personal effects to his three sons who had been living with his sister, Mrs. Ralph E. Parks, in Miles City, Mont., since his wife’s death.
His sons are Donald E. Haver, David E. Haver and Richard Lee Seeman.
A native of Nebraska, Seeman had been working with a construction crew on the new strip of highway 101 near Novato.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the army from February, 1943, to August, 1944. Funeral arrangements are pending word from his sister.
