Death of Harry Pardow Roma

On July 18th, Harry Pardow Roma quit this world. He was in his 16th year, and had not yet learned to know the care and trouble and heartache, which in later life surround the dying with a sense of resignation, preparing them, like the heaviness that precedes slumber, for that long sleep – the close of time and the dawn of eternity.

He had been sick for a long time of typhoid fever, and when the fever abated, and the hope sprang anew that he would be up soon to enjoy the company and receive the congratulations of his many friends, and to bring happiness to his sweet, patient, noble mother and his family – he began to sink, despite every effort of service and every endeavor of love, and at last the end came. The ravages of the disease had reduced his strength so far that he was unable to rally. Although a boy in years, he was a grown man – his growth had been very rapid, which weakened his natural power of resistance.

He was a fine, gentlemanly boy, kind in every act and deed, and courteous in his social relations. He possessed a fine mind, remarkably well trained for one of his years. He spoke 3 languages with freedom and ease, and was well up in the studies, and was an excellent pianist. He was fond of the stage, and had written several little plays in French and English, which were marked by many indications of talent.

The funeral took place from the family residence on Bulkeley Ave, Rev. Father Valenti officiating. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
