Death of Philo D. Brown

Mr. Philo D. Brown, who has been a resident of San Rafael during the past 3 years, died at his home on Fifth Avenue, late Sunday night, aged 75 years past. He was a native of Vermont, and in his younger manhood was a prominent banker in Montreal, Canada. In 1876 he came to California and up to within a few years was prominent in church and business circles in San Francisco and Oakland. In his younger days he was a prominent Mason, at one time being Deputy Grand Master of the order for the Dominion of Canada. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Mary Frank Brown, and 3 children, Dr. A.F. Brown, of Healdsburg, Frederick D. Brown, civil engineer for the Southern Pacific, and Mrs. Dr. Keck of this city. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday by Dr. David James, with interment at Mt. Tamalpais.
