Wm. D. Black
Final rites were held Monday in San Francisco from Gray’s Mortuary for William D. Black, prominent Larkspur man, who passed away last Saturday from a sudden heart attack while in the office of a San Francisco client.
Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, Mr. Black came to this country when he was thirteen. His first position was with Charles Evans Hughes, in New York, where he served as office boy. Coming to the Bay Area, the deceased built his home in Baltimore Park and for the past fifteen years resided there.
Ten years ago, after serving as a certified public account (sic) for some time, he opened his own offices in San Francisco, and three years ago, when his son, Douglas C. Black, completed his college training, the firm became Wm. D. Black & Son. In this capacity it will carry on.
Services for Mr. Black, who had been ill for many years, were conducted by the Rev. John Jefferson Canoles of San Rafael, with John W. Watson, of New York, Otto Sonnenberg, Bernhard Schmidt, Edward B. Jennings, Ludwig C. Koster and Al J. Quinn, who had worked with Mt. Black in New York, serving as honorary pallbearers. Interment followed the rites at Cypress Lawn cemetery.
In honor of the respected Larkspur citizen the Red Cross work room for the community which he has operated will be continued as a memorial to him by his wife. In addition to his friends who mourn in the area are many acquaintances in Santa Barbara where the deceased spent many summer vacations.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Edna Caroline Black, two sons, Cpl. K. A. Black, U. S. A. now in Australia, and Douglas C. Black; one daughter, Margaret “Pansy” Black; and two grandchildren, Alan and Christopher Black. (Petaluma and Santa Barbara papers please copy.)
