Funeral Services for Miss Nellie Bunn

Miss Nellie Bunn, so well known and beloved in her old home at San Rafael, died in Ventura County, recently, and was buried from her sister's home at Saticoy. The Saticoy paper gives the following account of her funeral, which we are sure will be of interest to her many friends.

"The funeral services of Miss Nellie Bunn took place in the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon, June 22, 1902.

The casket was open in the parlor of the Petrolia hotel prior to the services in the church. Relatives and many friends gathered there and took their final look at the face that had been so familiar among us. The large display of flowers bore witness to the love of many. After a solo by Mr. George Lunt - "Lead, Kindly Light" - and a short prayer by Rev. Theodore Hopping, the casket was carried over to the church, borne by 6 of the young ladies friends of Miss Kimball, the Misses Hedrick, the Misses Forbes, Miss M.W. Desmond, and Miss Jean Henderson.

The school children of Miss Bunn's class stood in two lines on either side of the approach to the church, while the sad procession marched in.

The services at the church were conducted by Rev. Mr. Ried of Saticoy, assisted by Rev. Mr. Hopping. The music was rendered by a choir with solos by Mr. George Lunt and Mr. Fred Irwin. Scripture, prayer and brief remarks helpful to the living constituted the services.

Reserved seats were occupied by the Native Daughters and the school children.

The auditorium was filled with people showing the loving esteem cherished for the departed.

The service at the cemetery was participated in by the Native Daughters, the Toyos, and the school children, each of whom dropped a California poppy into the silent tomb where in its last earthly resting place the deserted tabernacle of the soul awaits that day of days when "The Lord shall descend with a shout and with the voice of an archangel and the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first."
