Long-Time San Rafael Man Dies

Anthony Dallara, 73-year-old building maintenance man and San Rafael resident for more than 49 years, died yesterday morning at a local hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He was working at the American Automobile Assn. office at 1114 Fifth avenue, San Rafael when he walked over to the police station at about 6:10 a.m. and complained of pains in his chest.

He was taken immediately to the hospital where he died about an hour and a half later.

Dallara and his wife, Mary, went to New York from Italy in 1906 on their honeymoon. Then they went to San Francisco a few weeks after the earthquake and fire, then to San Rafael where they have lived since. They made their home at 15 Madrona avenue.

For about 12 years during and before World War II, Dallara was employed at the San Rafael Independent as a building maintenance man. He had also worked for the Dollar family and Harry Lutgens, former publisher of the San Rafael Independent.

Dallara was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, IDES of San Rafael, and UPPEC of San Rafael.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Louis, Francis and Edward Dallara; four daughters, Mrs. Enes Mager, Mrs. Mary Brown, Mrs. Florence Curry and Mrs. Louise Radieve; three sisters, Mrs. Celestina Leonardi, Mrs. Frank Leonardi and Mrs. C. F. Leonardi, a brother, John Dallara; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s, San Rafael, followed by a Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at the Keaton chapel.
