McKAY, Gilbert Charles - Died peacefully in Chadron, Nebraska on June 29. The youngest child of Rena R. and Robert J. McKay. He was one of a large family. He is survived by his loving sisters Marie Kirrene and Kathleen Brekke of Oakland and Carmel McKay of El Cerrito and his beloved great niece, Dena Paris and her husband David and their three children of Nebraska. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, great and great greats. Gilbert was an accomplished artist and lover of music, books, travel, antiques, and Asian artifacts. Born on Feb. 13, 1925 in Marin County, he received his early education in Sonoma County. After graduating from Santa Rosa Jr. College he attended art schools in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New Mexico. He was a social worker in Yolo, Sonoma and Santa Clara Counties for many years. During the Vietnam War he was with the American Red Cross in Vietnam and the Philippines. In the late Sixties he returned to San Francisco and in the Seventies Gil left California to pursue his artwork in Nevada. He was with The Art Gallery in Ely and more recently with the White Pine County Senior Center. Blessed with the gift of love he was loved by all and friend to those who touched his life.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Ely. Burial will be in the family plot at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Sebastopol, California.
