Good Citizen Passes Away

Frank M. Cartan, a well-known and pioneer San Francisco wholesale liquor merchant, passed away Monday evening after a lingering illness of twenty months. His loving wife was at his bedside when he answered the last summons. Rev. Father Valentine administered him the last rites.

The funeral was delayed until this morning on account of his brother coming from the East. A solemn requiem mass will be said at St. Mary’s Church at ten, and interment at Fernwood Cemetery.

Mr. Cartan was born in Dublin, Ireland, came to this State in 1870, and founded the large wholesale liquor business of Cartan-McCarthy in 1873.

He was a member of the Shriners, Knights Templar, and the Bohemian Club. He was not ac active member, as he was of a retiring disposition, preferring company of a few warm friends rather than many. Sausalito always had a warm spot in his heart, and he thought there was no place like it. For the past ten years he resided on his ark, Eblana, the Celtic name for Dublin, and enjoyed rowing very much. Om 1905 he was taken with paralysis. He leaves a widow, Nanny A. Cartan, to mourn his death.

Whoever knew Mr. Cartan could not help liking him.
