Captain Matsen Passes Away

Captain Charles Matsen, an old and highly respected citizen of Bolinas, on Wednesday passed away peacefully at his home in Bolinas and was interred in the cemetery at Bolinas. There was a very large attendance at the funeral on Friday.

Captain Matsen was born in Denmark sixty-five years ago. When very young he followed the sea for a livelihood, finally securing the captaincy of vessels. He came to Bolinas in early days when there was much boat building done there and for many years commanded vessels running between San Francisco, Bolinas and other coastwise ports. By his great personality and affability he made many lifelong friends who now grieve his departure.

It was only a week ago that the Captain stopped here on his way home from Bartlett Springs where he had been for his health and his death is a sudden shock to all throughout the county. He was the husband of the late Mary Matsen, father of Carl and Waldemar Matsen, Mrs. Olive Stuart, Mrs. Hiram Nott, and brother-in-law of Mrs. C. H. Koehnicke and Albert and Wallace Sayers.
