Death of Tomales Pioneer

William D. Freeman, the well known pioneer, died at about 8:30 o’clock Friday evening at his home near Tomales. He would have been 80 years old on the 27th of next month. He was a native of New York State, and he came from Indiana to California in the early fifties. Mr. Freeman was the father of 12 children, all but one of whom are living. His daughters, Emma and Nellie are the wives of the Cornet brothers. The other children are George, Frank, Albert, Henry, James, Orrin, Lillian, Elmer and Warren Freeman.

Mr. Freeman was married in Indiana, and 3 of his children were born there; the others in this state. The family crossed the plains with an ox team, and made Tomales their abiding place. Most of the children have left the home place, but all are in California.

The funeral took place Monday and was conducted by the Petaluma Lodge of Odd Fellows, No. 30, of which Mr. Freeman was long a member.

Mr. Freeman was also a member of Petaluma Lodge No. 1923, Knights of Honor.
