Killed by Train
Sunday afternoon as the San Quentin train was approaching San Rafael, it struck a man, cutting off both of his legs and killing him instantly. It was impossible to find out who he was, as there were no papers or other means of identification on his clothes. His derby hat was marked with the letters “A.W.” which is the only possible clue to his name. He was buried in the Potter’s Field at the Poor Farm.
