JEANETTE ERWITT
Novato resident
Jeanette Trepel Erwitt died of heart failure Aug. 14 at Novato Community Hospital. She was 94.
Mrs. Erwitt was born in Moscow and emigrated to the United States in 1939. She lived in Los Angeles for 46 years before settling in Marin. She maintained strong ties with the Russian community.
She worked as a waitress, actress, nurse and painter. She spoke Russian, French, Italian and German fluently.
She is survived by a son, Elliott Erwitt of New York City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held.
