Sudden Death From Typhus Fever

Frank Laiter, twelve years of age, died at the Presbyterian Orphanage on Saturday of typhus fever. It is said to be the first instance of this disease that has appeared in the state within thirty years, and seems to have been a sporadic case.

The little boy was only ill for three days and although everything was done for him that medical skill could suggest, nothing stopped the progress of the fever.

Funeral services were conducted in the main building by Dr. Doane, on Tuesday afternoon, while the body remained in the hearse. The children came out and sang, when the remains, followed only by Dr. and Mrs. Doane, were driven to Mt. Tamalpais cemetery, where interment was strictly private. All the children of the Orphanage are in quarantine and the Robert Dollar school in temporarily suspended.
