Manuel Rogers Summoned Above
A shadow of gloom was thrown over the Southern end of Marin on Monday by the announcement of the death of Manuel Rogers at his home on the Reed Ranch on the shores of Richardson Bay. He was a noble character, deeply beloved by all who met him socially and commercially. He was always striving to assist every one in upbuilding their characters. He came to California forty years ago and to Marin nearly thirty years ago. For fifteen years he held an important position with the old San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad, leaving it to go ranching for himself and at the time of his death he was interested in several ranches and comfortably fixed. He was an active member of two leading Portuguese fraternal societies, the U. P. E.C. and the I. D. E. S., always working for the best interests. His word was in good as many anothers bond. For the past fortnight he was complaining of a cold which rapidly developed into pneumonia.

Rev. Father Valentini said a solemn requiem mass in Mill Valley Thursday and later said services at the grave. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in Southern Marin, people coming from Alameda, San Mateo, San Francisco and Sonoma counties and from all over Marin to pay their last respects to the memory of their deceased friend. He leaves a wife Mary, two daughters Rose and Louise, and two sons Manuel and Henry.
