Death of John S. Susavilla

The death of John S. Susavilla occurred at his residence in South Sausalito on Monday evening, Sept. 16th. He had been ailing for some time. Susavilla was one of the oldest inhabitants on this peninsula, having been born on the military reservation just west of the Lime Point fog station over 45 years ago. No ferry boar ran to Sausalito t hen and the town consisted of about a dozen houses, the main portion of which were located near where the Walhalla now stands and consisted in a few fishermen’s houses occupied by people engaged in trimming and drying codfish brought from the north. His father, Stephen Susavilla, was the custodian of the military reservation under Col. Mendell for a number of years and was well and favorably known all over this part of the country.

Susavilla leaves a wife Margaret, and a son and daughter Mrs. Leo de Sella. He also leaves a brother Anotolio Susavilla and he was the brother of Mrs. Jos. Garcia and Mrs. John Silva. The funeral took place at St. Mary’s church on Thursday at 10 a.m. and a requiem mass was said for the repose of his soul. The services were attended by a large number of friends and relatives. He was buried in Fernwood Cemetery, Sausalito.
