DEATH OF JAMES SMITH
Another San Rafael Pioneer Passes to Eternal Rest
Death each year takes from our midst one or more of the old human landmarks of our city. In the death of Mr. James Smith on last Sunday, San Rafael loses one of its old and highly respected citizens. Mr. James Smith was the embodiment of good citizenship and his quiet and peaceful manner won him the respect of all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Mr. Smith was a member of the old school. He was one of a number of Ireland's sons who settled in Marin County in the early sixties and assisted materially in its upbuilding. They were a loyal, honest, straightforward body of men who had a high respect for law and order, and all of whom raised large families, of whom they had every reason to honor and respect. The deceased was a native of Donegal, Ireland, aged 69 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna Smith, and devoted father of Margaret M., Jane J., Martha M., and the late Annie and Mary Smith. The funeral was held at 9 a. m. this morning from St. Raphael's church where a requiem high mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul.
