Daughter of Marin Pioneer Passes Away
Mrs. Alice M. Forbes Wilson of Belvedere Dies in San Francisco
Mrs. Alice Maud Forbes Wilson, one of the best known residents of Marin county, passed away last Monday evening in San Francisco, following a surgical operation. Mrs. Wilson had been identified with Marin county almost since her birth. She was the daughter of Alexander Forbes, who came to California with the gold rush in the month of August, 1849, and became one of the picturesque figures of pioneer days. He was the founder of a widely known commercial firm that bore his name, and engaged in other activities, such as the development of large mining projects and real estate investments. In the fifties he acquired large holdings in Marin county, that embraced most of the northern part of the city of San Rafael, and later, in partnership with William Coleman, invested in a large tract out of which included in part the towns of Larkspur and Corte Madera.
Mrs. Wilson has made her summer home in Belvedere every since it was opened as a residential section. She had many attached friends in Marin county and San Francisco, who will sincerely lament her loss.
Mrs. Wilson’s immediate relatives were her husband, Edgar M. Wilson; her daughter, Mrs. Effingham Sutton, and Edgar Forbes Wilson. She was the sister of Mrs. Mary A. Tippetts of London, England; Mrs. James H. Wilkins of San Rafael; Mrs. Edith A. Neame of Victoria, B.C., Miss Kate F. Forbes and William D. B. Forbes of San Francisco.
Funeral services, held yesterday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, San Francisco, were attended by many residents of Marin county, who had known Mrs. Wilson during her long residence at Belvedere. Interment was private.
