Services were held today for Rowena E. Bucknum, a 63-year resident of San Rafael.

Mrs. Bucknum died Wednesday in a local hospital after a short illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Burknum was born in Moroni, Utah.

She and her husband, Everett E. Bucknum, built, owned and operated the Monte Mar Motel in San Rafael until 1963.

After retiring, Mrs. Bucknum spent much of her time painting and some of her watercolors and oil canvases were exhibited locally. She and her husband also traveled extensively.

She was active with the Goldenaires of San Rafael and several other senior-citizen groups.

She is survived by a son, Jack E. Bucknum of Sleepy Hollow, a former military aide to President Eisenhower, and a daughter, Jean O’Pizzi of Palm Springs. Mrs. Bucknum’s husband of 63 years, died in 1976.

Burial was at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
