Funeral of F. L Johnson
Captain F. L. Johnson, who lost his life when the ill fated Rosencrans was lost on the Columbia river bar, was buried in San Francisco last week. The funeral was very largely attended and many officers of the army and navy and many prominent men paid their last tribute to a gallant officer. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Captain Johnson was an ex-apprentice in the U. S. Navy. He served in the Spanish American war and was on the Baltimore in Admiral Dewey's gallant fight at Manila. He was but 30 years old when placed in command of the Rosencrans. The funeral procession included the officers and crew of the Marblehead and 70 men from the San Francisco Training Station as escorts. A salute was fired and taps were sounded at his grave.

Boatswain H. T. Johnson of the Marblehead is a brother of Captain Johnson and he had a number of friends here.
