Woman Dies After 100 Years in Marin County
Marin County yesterday lost its oldest resident and California its oldest native daughter, when Mrs. Juanna McGovern, daughter of one of the early governors of California, died at her home in Bolinas at the age of 103 years. She had resided in Marin County for 100 years, having removed to Bolinas with her parents when she was 3 years of age. She was the wife of Richard McGovern, and leaves 2 sons, Sherman Smith and J.H. Smith.
Mrs. McGovern was the daughter of Gregorio Briones, who was at one time governor of California. In the early days of Marin County her father owned 9 square miles of land in the Bolinas section, their holdings being one of the old Spanish grants.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Catholic Church at Bolinas where a requiem mass will be celebrated. Interment in the family plot in the Bolinas Cemetery. Arrangements for the funeral are in the hands of Keaton & Dusel of this city.
