Pioneer Sausalito Woman at Rest
A requiem high mass was celebrated for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Eugenia Janes Jones on Monday, January 13, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Van Ness and O'Farrell streets. She was the sister of Mrs. J. W. Harrison and mother of Sydney L. Jones and Mrs. P. C. Pennoche, who survive her. Her husband, Everett Jones the capitalist, and member of the firm of Jones & Co., a prominent firm of San Francisco previous to the fire, died some time since. Mrs. Jones and Mrs. J. W. Harrison were daughters of Gaul, H. A. Cobb one of the original promoters of the Sausalito Land and Ferry Co. He built one of the first houses in Sausalito after the company organized. The house is still standing and is the property of Mrs. E. Shoobert on Harrison avenue. Every old Sausalito resident will remember the Misses Cobb and the parties and horseback rides of the early times about 1870; and of the number Mrs. Jones was a shining light. She was gifted with a kindly heart and her death, which occurred on January 11, will be remembered with the deepest regret by all.
