Boy’s Death Is Mourned By Hundreds
Impressive Services Held At San Rafael for Fine Local Citizen
Following an illness of more than three months, Clarence Wright, one of the best known and most popular young men of San Anselmo, died early Sunday morning at his home in Hawthorn Hills. He underwent an operation three months ago and his illness then was found to be incurable and hope was abandoned.
Young Wright was born in Leetsville, Penn., more than 26 years ago and came to California with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Right, when but 18 months old. For many years the Wright family spent their summers in Marin County. Nine years ago Charles Wright acquired the San Anselmo Lumber Company and his son has been associated with him in the conduct of the business since that time. His education was received in San Francisco. He is a graduate of t he Crocker High School there.
An active member of the San Anselmo Volunteer Fire department since Sept. 22, 1924, Mr. Wright had bee the treasurer of that organization for four years. He was one of the most devoted members of the department, attended every fire whenever possible, and had gained a reputation as a fire fighter.
Mr. Wright was a member of the Marin Lodge of Masons.
The fire department conducted the funeral services Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at the parlors of Keaton & Dusel. Dr. Lynn T. White of the faculty of the San Francisco Theological Seminary delivered the sermon. Hundreds of friends from Marin County and the bay district attended the services, and the floral pieces were most beautiful. Mr. Wright’s fireman’s ca reposed on the bier surrounded by flowers.
H. A. Lanpher, president of the San Anselmo Fire Department; Nello Marcucci, chief of the department, and Charles Cartwright, fire marshal were the honorary pall bearers. The active pall bearers included: Bert Meagor, Ambrose Ferrario, William Ferrari, Joseph Symonds, Peter Caletti, Leo Manning, Charles Leach, John Lusher and Louis Chirone.
Mr. Wright is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mae Wright; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wright, and a sister, Mrs. Maynor C. Clark, also of San Anselmo. His father is a member of the Town Council of San Anselmo and one of the best known business men in Marin.
The fire department, at a special meeting Monday, retired Mr. Wright’s fire badge, which was numbered 17, and that number will never be used again in the department.
