Pioneer Dies At Family Home
George Faulkner Fanning, aged 96 years, one of the oldest pioneers of this State, died today at the family home in Ross Valley. Complications brought on by extreme old age ended a long and eventfully (sic) life at 1:15 in the afternoon. Daughters of the deceased were present at the death bed. They are Murial B. Fanning, Mrs. May McCartney, Mrs. Emma Barney, Mrs. Carrie Tucker and Mrs. Lulu Torbert.
Geo. Fanning was born at Jewett City, Connecticut, and came to this state in 1849. He left Newberry Port, Massachusetts, on the 23rd day of January of that year and just six months later arrived in San Francisco. The trip was made by steamer around Cape Horn.
Deceased was connected with the Hale family, one of the oldest in New England.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed at this writing.
