Popular Ball Player Meets Death In Game
Manager of Petaluma Club is Killed by Thrown Ball
PETALUMA, Sept. 8 – Struck over the eye by a baseball hurled by an opposing player less than one yard away, Carl Haderman, Jr., 26, manager of the Petaluma Leghorns ball team, and one of the best known amateur ball players of the north bay district, received injuries on Monday from which he died on the following day.
Haderman, who had played with Petaluma teams for many years, was racing toward second base during a game with the Jeffersons, a San Francisco club, when he was struck. His own speed, coupled with the force of the ball thrown by the Jeffersons’ shortstop from second base towards first to complete a double play, increased the violence of t he blow. Haderman’s skull was fractured, and he died twelve hours later without regaining consciousness.
The dead athlete was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Haderman, Sr., pioneer residents of this city. They survive him, as do a wife, Mrs. Annie Haderman, and a son, Carl Haderman, 3rd. There is also a sister, Mrs. Johanna Petersen, who operates the Hillside Hospital, where her brother died.

Deep regret was expressed by San Rafael and San Anselmo baseball players, when news of Haderman’s death was received here. The manager of the Petaluma club had often played here and in San Anselmo, and was popular alike with players and fans. Funeral services for the victim of the unfortunate accident were held yesterday in Petaluma.
