James S. Elliott
Retail merchandiser
James S. Elliott of San Rafael died Saturday, Sept. 1, 1990, at Marin General Hospital. He was 45.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., he held positions as vice president of visual merchandising and store design for several major retail department stores about the country. They included Howland-Steinbach in New Jersey, Emporium-Capwell and Marshall Fields.
In the last few years, Mr. Elliott was self-employed selling visual merchandising and designing for department stores in the West.
He belonged to many professional organizations and enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening. He moved to Marin 12 years ago.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Elliott of San Rafael; a daughter, Catherine Elliott of San Rafael; and three brothers, Robert Elliott of Lake Forest, Ill., Frank Elliott of Islip, N.Y. and Steven Elliott of Sayville, N.Y.
A memorial service will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church in San Rafael.
Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society of San Rafael.
