Fisherman Washed To Death From Rock Near Point Bonita
Sausalito Man, Companion of Victim Powerless to Render Aid
Washed from a rock on Berg’s Island, near Point Bonita on the Marin county shore, by a breaker which caught him unprepared, Walter Ellis, 27 years of age, was drowned yesterday morning. The body was swept away by the tide and has not been recovered. Ellis was unmarried and lived with his parents at 178 Clinton Park, San Francisco. He was employed as an elevator operator in the Flood Building.
Leo Cummings of Sausalito, who accompanied Ellis on the fatal fishing trip, was powerless to aid his companion as the latter was swept from the rock and was compelled to stand idly by and watch Ellis sink to death.
